Champagne Salon Overview:
Salon is one of the great prestige names of Champagne, and the 2006 is a particularly rare release. The house makes only one wine: a vintage Blanc de Blancs from 100% Chardonnay, sourced from the Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in the Côte des Blancs. Salon is famously selective, releasing wine only in strong vintages, with the 2006 noted as just the 40th release since the house began in 1905.

The 2006 sits in a generous, sunny vintage style, but the best reviews note that Salon has kept its signature chalk, cut and precision. Expect a fuller, more expressive style than the racier, more austere Salon vintages. Notes commonly associated with the wine include confit lemon, orange oil, smoke, toasted bread, mocha, chalk, acacia and fine citrus richness. Wine Advocate’s note, quoted by Wine.com, describes it as “tangy and reserved” for the vintage, with racy acidity, concentration and a long, gently smoky finish.
