The weekly magazine "Die Woche" was published by the Berlin publisher August Scherl from 1899 to 1944. For the competition "im Volkston - New Folk Songs" held in 1903, 30 composers submitted songs to be published in a special issue. Although all the songs had a "folk song form", they were a bit too artistic and did not achieve the original goal of "finding songs that are simple, beautiful, and easy to sing". This time, the publisher did not directly ask the composers to submit their compositions; instead, a variety of compositions gathered spontaneously were published in Woche magazine. The competition was very well received (unfortunately, Reger's "Forest Solitude" was not selected, despite its excellent performance, and was not published in the magazine). In this album, beautiful pieces were selected and performed from all the entries. Naxos Japan
