Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto
Description:
The long-awaited remastered reissue with two bonus tracks of the 2011 album, the fifth and final chapter in the collaboration series between Alva Noto, who leads the world music scene with his unique approach, and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
Summvs, released in 2011, is the fifth and final installment in the collaboration series (Viles) between German sound artist Karsten Nicolai, aka Alva Noto, and Japanese musician Ryuichi Sakamoto.
The title "Summvs" is derived from the Latin words "summa" (English "sum" = total, sum) and "versus" (English "towards" = toward), and is a metaphor for the fact that this work is oriented toward the results of their collaboration. In this collaborative project with an impressionistic atmosphere, the two artists from different generations share the idea of electronic music as a source of inspiration for new musical structures, and have collaborated on several projects including "Vrioon" (2002), "Insen" (2005), "Revep" (2006), "Utp_" (2006), and "Vrioon" (2006). (2002), "Insen" (2005), "Revep" (2006), "Utp_" (2009), and "Summvs" (2011), the five albums in the series explore meditative sound worlds that fuse electronic and acoustic sounds with expressive richness, breath, and precision in design. (The name of the series is an acronym for the five albums in the series.)
The album includes the piece "Microon," which uses a piano tuned to sound up to sixteenth notes (Piano Metamorfoseador Carrillo en Dieciseisavos de Tono), and Brian Eno's compositions with Dieter Mobius of
