Description:
Commemorating the 400th anniversary of Byrd's death! The Jesualdo Six sing "Mass in Five Voices," a young British male a capella ensemble specializing in Renaissance polyphony, founded in 2014. Its director, Owain Park, was born in 1993 and is a gifted musician who has expanded his activities as a composer, conductor, singer, and organist at a young age. The group has organized a special concert "Secret Bird" to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of William Byrd (c.1543-1623), a leading English Renaissance composer, and has been touring extensively in the U.S. and U.K. This album, their seventh, also commemorates the 400th anniversary of Byrd's death. This seventh album also commemorates the 400th anniversary of his death, and is centered around his Latin (for hidden Catholics) masterpiece "Mass in Five Voices," probably composed in late 1594 or early 1595, interspersed with Latin motets of extraordinary beauty, and aptly captures the power and tenderness of Byrd's work. A wonderful album has been completed. The "Jeremiah's Lament," which is believed to have been composed while at Lincoln in the 1560s, has three incomplete voices (tenor) that remain in three places even after piecing together the remaining documents from Oxford and Tenbury, which Owain Park has cleverly reconstructed while keeping the style of the period.
