Description:
Vladigerov was one of the most outstanding and influential composers of the 20th century in Bulgaria, and was a founding member of the Bulgarian Society of Contemporary Music (the predecessor of the Union of Bulgarian Composers) in 1933. He also showed great talent as a teacher, and trained many young composers. This Capriccio series is a reissue of 18 CDs of recordings made in the 1970s. The series of pieces using Bulgarian melodies is one of the most popular genres among Vladigerov's works, and the generous expression in the "Bulgarian Dances," one of his own compositions, is particularly appealing. The two violin concertos, with their free violin passages and classical style, are also very rewarding and large-scale works. Most of the works are conducted by the composer's son, Alexander.
