This is the first ECM leader release from Shai Maestro, a talented pianist who is one of the leading figures in Israeli jazz. After five years in bassist Avishai Cohen's band, and then expanding his activities to include the Mark Guiliana Quartet and a duo with Chris Potter, he finally appears in his own trio work, having first appeared on ECM in Theo Blechman's "Elegy" released in 2017. Peruvian bassist Jorge Roeder has been with the trio for the past seven years, but this album features a new drummer, Israeli Ofri Nehemya, who plays mostly Maestro originals, as well as solo piano pieces M-1 is an Israeli singer-songwriter Matti Caspi's Maestro has loved this song since he was a child, and it has become a part of him. Likewise, he loves "These Foolish Things" for its melody and beautiful harmonies.
