Description:
In honor of this memorable solo debut album, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, "IF I COULD ONLY REMEMBER MY NAME (50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION)" is now being released! This 50th anniversary edition will be released in two formats: a 2CD version, featuring the album carefully remastered from the original analog master tapes, as well as many rare and unreleased demos, outtakes, and alternate versions of the album, and a 180-gram weight vinyl version, featuring remastered recordings of the album. The remastered version of the album will be released in two formats: a 2CD version, which includes the original album material, unreleased demos, outtakes, alternate versions, and many other rare sources. The remastering was done by Stephen Barncard, the engineer who engineered the original album, using the Plangent Process for restoration and speed correction. When David Crosby began recording this album in 1970, he was grieving the loss of his longtime girlfriend in a car accident. His refuge was Wally Heider Studios in San Francisco, where Jerry Garcia visited him every night.David recalls those days: "There were those smiling faces, those kind eyes, and that charming music. There was that smile, those kind eyes, and that charming music. It was so natural, not forced, graceful, joyful, and always there. It was kindness itself. Jerry didn't say anything, didn't hint at anything. He just said, "Hey, I heard you were doing something. And the music they made together was IF I COULD ONLY REMEMBER MY NAME, which later generations of singer/songwriters would refer to as an early example of the "freak folk" genre. All nine songs on the album are full of different moods and atmospheres, including "Cowboy Movie," with David's swagger and Jerry's sharp solos, "Song With No Words (Trees With No Leaves)," which moves gently between choral folk and modal jazz, and "Orleans," a French children's song that evolves into a song with layers of vocal harmonies using the studio's reverberations and his own voice. All nine songs on the album, including "Orleans," a French children's song that he evolved into a song with layers of vocal harmonies using the echoes of his studio and his own voice, continue to shine through the ages as wonderful songs with a wide range of moods and textures.
