He also played in Miles Davis' band in his final years and was called "the second coming of Miles. This album, too, sticks to an acoustic sound, and features a thrilling performance backed by young members who will lead the next generation. Drummer Lenny White, who played on Miles' Bitches Brew, joined the band for four songs, adding to the depth of the band's sound. With eight tracks ranging from the fantastically beautiful ballad "Why Should There Be Stars," reminiscent of Miles, and Dave Liebman's "NewBreed," to new sounds created by the younger members, this work offers a glimpse into the future of jazz. Recorded at Rudy Van Gelder Studios in New Jersey. Maureen Sickler, who worked as Van Gelder's assistant engineer for many years, handled the recording. The recording is also remarkable for its masterful knowledge of the sound of acoustic instruments.
