Bred from elite Danish genetics and mated on the Dorset coast — these F1 Buckfast queens combine Scandinavian hardiness with the adaptability of local UK mating for stronger, calmer colonies.
Our Danish Line F1 Buckfast queens are grafted from Ivan Nielson’s world-famous Himmerlandske Bie breeder queens (Denmark) — one of Europe’s leading Buckfast breeding programs. These breeder queens (F0) are known for their winter resilience, calm behaviour and strong honey yields.
All grafted F1 daughters are mated here in Dorset, UK, along the Jurassic Coast — benefiting from a rich and diverse drone population of locally maintained Buckfast stock. This gives every queen the best of both worlds: elite genetics and locally adapted performance.
Unlike small mating nuc setups, our queens are mated in full 6-frame nucleus colonies and left for at least four weeks to build brood. This ensures every queen is well-mated, laying strongly and fully assessed before sale.
Only queens showing consistent brood pattern, solid temperament and vitality are selected for dispatch — ensuring buyers receive proven, fertile, and ready-to-perform queens.
Queens are caged securely with healthy nurse bees for safe, stress-free transit and arrive ready to head your next productive colony.
These queens are fully mated on the Jurassic Coast, making them naturally adapted to the UK’s climate. Their combination of Danish genetics and local Dorset mating results in calm, productive, and disease-resistant colonies ideal for both hobbyist and commercial beekeepers.
The breeder queens (F0) originate from Ivan Nielson’s Himmerlandske Bie in Denmark, but all grafting and mating of F1 daughters take place here in Dorset, UK, along the Jurassic Coast.
