Description:

This was a showcase show on the release day of "Musicology" (2004), the first big hit album since Prince parted ways with Warner, the label he had been with for a long time since his debut, and moved his focus to his own label, NPG. The showcase show was held at a relatively small hall in New York, and the audience was very close to the band. 2004 was the most prolific year in Prince's history, and the show was a rare occasion for the band to play a lot of cover songs. The setlist was also reflected in this show, especially the part where Prince played acoustic guitar by himself, which was well received. Also on saxophone were Maicio Parker and Candy Dulfer. Prince's chic and jazzy style of "One Nite Alone..." (2002) is still fresh in our minds, and it will continue in 2004. The band is led by female bassist Rhonda Smith, who has been with the band since 1999, and features John Blackwell (ds), Renate Nate (keys), Greg Boyer (tp), and other members, with the previously guest saxophone stars Maceo Parker and Candy Dulfer have become regular members of the band.Although Prince performed alone on the recording of "Musicology," live members also participated in some of the songs at this time. In addition, on February 24, before the album's release, a smaller-scale debut performance of new songs was held, and this showcase was a follow-up to the previous one, showing Prince's passion for "Musicology". In addition to a new song featuring the Horns, he also played his signature song "Kiss" in a jazz-funk style. Prince's unprecedented serviceability was rare, as he let the audience sing Rufus & Chaka Khan's classic "Sweet Thing" and played Ike & Tina Turner's "Proud Mary" as if it were a joke.
