In SpellBook, each player, accompanied by a confidant, has a grimoire and collects Materia to control spells and feed their confidant. The game provides pre-printed sets of spells for use in the early rounds, but soon players start drawing spells at random or creating their own combinations common to all players. Each spell combination produces an effect that lasts for the rest of the game, and the more ingenious the combination, the more powerful the effect.

As the rounds progress, the game becomes a different experience each time, with over 2,100 possible spell combinations.

The game ends once a wizard completes his grimoire or a confidant is fully fed, at which point the player with the most points wins. SpellBook includes a solo mode that closely matches the multiplayer experience, offering a high level of challenge and an excellent way to learn the rules of the game.
