Ceremonial lamps used widely for Hindu rituals, Diyas mark the welcoming of good luck and prosperity. Made popular by the Hindu festival Diwali, the occasion of homecoming of Hindu mythology figure Ram from exile. Though mostly made of clay, there have been a lot of experimental alloys that are used to decorate Diyas in various forms and shapes. The lighting of Diyas is also said to symbolize auspiciousness and knowledge.
