The sideboard is crafted entirely from Brazilian Rosewood, known as Jacaranda, featuring three drawers adorned with brass handles, along with a single door, a shelf, and supported by four square-shaped legs. Designed by Geraldo de Barros during his tenure at Unilabor in the 1950s, it reflects his iconic aesthetic characterized by straight lines, modular boxes, and the use of hardwood, metal, and formica. The manufacturing seal of Unilabor is located underneath the chest, attesting to its authenticity.
The rosewood used in this piece displays outstanding quality with colorful veins that enhance its visual appeal. The craftsmanship is impeccable, maintaining the piece in perfect condition. Despite being produced during Brazil’s industrialization era (1940s-1970s), such furniture was crafted on a small artisanal scale, making pieces like this increasingly rare and sought after today. The last images in the collection showcase Unilabor’s manufacturing manuals, highlighting this and other iconic designs from the era.
