Tweede scheppingsdag: scheiding tussen de wateren, 1589
Jan Harmensz. Muller
In this captivating piece, an angel, crowned with the four winds, distinguishes the heavenly waters from the earthly waters. The heavenly water is personified by a woman holding a pitcher from which water flows, and in her other hand, a rainbow. The earthly water is symbolized by a river god with a jug, pouring out water, adorned with shells on his head. This artwork is inspired by the Bible passage Genesis 1:6-8.
