A typically later 1950s shape, with a full sweep on the skirt - I’ve not used any crinolines but it still has a lot of volume! Bateau neckline sits just at the tops of the shoulders. My poor mannequin didn’t have enough bosom, which often the case when she models 1940s and 50s.. but hopefully you get the idea! 

As you can see from the photograph this dress was originally a pale colour (have included a photo of the  original owner, photographed in 1958!) but has been dyed by the previous owner for reuse which I think was fairly common - particular with wedding dresses during ww2 and post war, so some thrifty initiative remained here! It’s a very dark pink, seen best in the close ups, and the contrasting ribbon trim is an off white velvet. 

Fastens to the centre back with a metal zip. It’s a fine cotton outer with embroidery and drawn details, almost an organdy but not quite so stiff (it may be that washing has removed some of the stiffening agent). As you can see there is a ruffled trim to both bodice and skirt in a cotton broderie anglaise. Lining looks like a rayon acetate. The bodice is fully lined, and the skirt loose lined. 

No label, although would assume it has been commercially or custom made due to the finish. It really is quite a showstopper, and an awful lot of material!
