The Ferris Wheel
Description:
The debut album by Ferris Wheel, a mixed band that played psychedelic soul that was at the forefront of the London club scene at the time! Ferris Wheel was formed in London, England in late 1966. The group's first female singer, Diane Fellers, came to England from her native Caribbean island of Trinidad (part of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, also a member of the British Commonwealth) at the age of 14. She aspired to become a professional singer, specializing in jazz (Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billy Eckstein, Peggy Lee, etc.), but it was Simon Napier-Bell (born April 22, 1939, London) who discovered her through an audition. Their repertoire consisted of the latest R&B/soul numbers, with the Fellas, who were strongly inspired by Motown-style female soul singers such as Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross at the time, playing the main roles, and Liston and George Sweetnam adding vocal parts. Their style quickly became one of the main attractions of London's mod clubs. Their reputation caught the ear of John Schroeder (January 19, 1935 - January 31, 2017/London-born producer and composer), who signed them to a major pie label just six months after their formation. This CD "Can't Break the Habit" is the first album (M1-M12) released in December 1967, with the debut single M13,14 (both single versions of the album track) added as bonus tracks. Commentary: Masaru Konishi
