Christian McBride's New Jawn
Description:
Christian McBride New Joan's long-awaited second album, "Prime," is now available from Brother Mr. Productions, led by Christian McBride. Led by eight-time Grammy Award winner Christian McBride, this remarkable 21st century group began with a Vanguard performance in '15. The quartet consists of Josh Evans (tp), Marcus Strickland (ts, bass clarinet), and Seat Waits (d) with no chord instruments. Christian McBride's activities include piano trio, inside straight with vibraphone and piano, and big band, but in recent years he has been particularly devoted to this formation. The band's performance of the Strickland-penned title track "Prime," inspired by the movie "Transformers," two original songs written by McBride, "Head Bedlam" and "Lurkers," Larry Young's "Obsequious," Ornette Coleman's "The Good Life" and Sonny Rollins' "East Broadway Run Down. I think we're all in our prime as musicians," McBride said, explaining the album title ''prime,'' then added, "No, let's look on the bright side. We're almost in our prime," he added wryly.
